The Madras High Court permitted the release of the Vijay-starrer "Kavalan", provided the producer and the director furnished a security for Rs. 1.88 crore towards the suit claim filed by a private finance company, claiming copyright. The order was passed by Justice V Ramasubramanian further to a petition filed by Sree Gokulam Chits and Finance Company of Kodambakkam seeking to restrain producer Ramesh Babu and director KS Siddique from releasing the movie.
Gokulam Chits paid Rs. 3.90 crore and copyrights including rights to remake and dub as well as world satellite rights and video rights to Johny Sagarika for a movie called "Body Guard" in January 2010 but Siddique and Ramesh Babu started remaking "Body Guard" as "Kavalan" in Tamil, thus violating the contract which the private finance company had signed earlier. Thus the High court summoned for security for the benefit and in interest of all the parties.
